Description:1. In terms of Taiwan Japanese-language poets, Wang Baiyan ranks as one of the very best. In 1931 Wang published a collection of his own poetry, entitled The Thorny Road, which was highly regarded in leftist Japanese poetry circles. His poems “Standing Along the Yangtze River” and “Shanghai Lament” particularly stand out. In his Study of the Old Colonies (1971, Keisō Bookstore), Hotsuki Ōzaki reprinted these poems, establishing Wang’s literary position. Wang Baiyan did not leave many works, and this collection of his poetry is an important contribution to Taiwan literary history.

2. In 1923 Wang went to Japan for advanced studies at the Tokyo School of Fine Arts (now Tokyo University of the Arts) and in 1932 with some enthusiasts of Taiwan literature and art organized the “Taiwanese Culture and Friendship Association” and founded the magazine Formosa. Wang Baiyan was a celebrated painter and poet of the Japanese Occupation Period.

其他說明:1. 台灣用日文寫作的詩人,王白淵為地位最高的一位。1931年王白淵出版個人詩集《蕀の道》,受到日本左翼詩壇高度評價。其詩作〈站在揚子江〉、〈上海吟〉尤為傑出,尾崎秀樹著「舊殖民地之研究」(勁草書店),特別予以轉載,確立其文學地位。王白淵遺世作品不多,此詩集為台灣文學史上重要作品之一。
2. 王白淵於1923年到日本深造,就讀日本國立東京美術學校,並於1932年與東京的台灣文藝同好,組織「台灣藝術研究會」,創辦《福爾摩沙》雜誌,為日治時期著名的畫家與詩人。
